Dissolution Hour – Monthly Online Yin Yoga for Men
Dissolution Hour is a free online Yin Yoga session for men that’s held every four weeks on a Thursday at 7pm UK time – each class lasts up to 90 minutes and is open to all levels, including complete beginners.
Really, this class is a space that has emerged out of a simple observation (that I’ve acquired from coaching people):
Many men today live in a state of ongoing mental and emotional activation with difficulty slowing down, switching off, or staying present with their own internal experience. This is because when the nervous system is under chronic stress – which it often is given our frenetic modern lifestyles – then even stillness can feel uncomfortable and so the instinct often becomes to move into distraction, control freakery, or overthinking.
Dissolution Hour is designed as a structured way to gently reverse this pattern and help men put themselves back onto their own real path so they can start building a sense of flow in their lives.
What This Dissolution Hour Yin Yoga for Men Practice is For
If you haven’t heard of it before then let me give you the basics:
Yin Yoga is a slow, floor-based yoga practice that uses long, passive holds, mindful attention, and breathwork to support down-regulation, awareness, and recovery.
In the context of Dissolution Hour, the practice is used to support three capacities that will serve you in your life as a whole:
Regulation: Developing the ability to settle the nervous system, slow internal reactivity, and build greater tolerance for stillness and discomfort without needing to immediately escape it (which is what causes many of the unnecessary problems in our lives).
This aligns with research showing that yoga practices can support stress reduction and improvements in autonomic balance and emotional regulation (as summarised by organisations such as the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health, Harvard Health Publishing, and Mayo Clinic).
Integration: Learning to stay present with bodily sensations and emotional experience rather than automatically avoiding them, numbing out, or over-intellectualising them. Many emotional patterns persist not because they’re too “deep” but because they’re never fully felt or allowed to move through awareness (or, as Carl Jung said: “What you resist, persists“).
Alignment in action: When there’s more internal stability then the action that we take in our lives tends to become clearer and less reactive. What this means is that decisions are less driven by tension, avoidance, or compulsion, and more rooted in what feels genuinely coherent and grounded in the present moment. In other words, it becomes REAL.
Why Yin Yoga for Men Matters
The intention of Dissolution Hour is not to ‘fix’ you or to remove all of the difficulties and problems from your life but to build a baseline capacity for regulation and presence within yourself and your own life.
Without this baseline we can just end up:
- Staying locked in habitual stress patterns and old emotional ‘stuff’.
- Interpreting emotional discomfort as physical danger and so never feeling our feelings and moving past them (this doesn’t mean that feelings are the truth – just that we have to feel them so we can move more deeply into something true).
- Using productivity, training, work, over-stimulation, or [literally anything else] as a way of avoiding our own internal experience.
When you work to cultivate this baseline and to return to realness, then you have much more room and freedom to respond to life rather than react from conditioning.
This doesn’t replace deeper personal work (which is what I do with my coaching clients) but it supports it and helps you to be better equipped to actually experience something real.
What the Dissolution Hour Class Involves
Each Dissolution Hour yin yoga for men session includes:
- A guided Yin Yoga flow suitable for all levels.
- Continuous ujjayi nose breathing to support focus and regulation.
- Long, passive holds designed to develop awareness and capacity for stillness.
- A final 10-minute savasana (corpse pose) for integration and rest.
Known Benefits of Yoga (Research-supported)
This isn’t just a ‘nice’ little theory that makes yoga sound like something it isn’t – across a wide body of research on yoga and slow movement practices, studies have associated regular practice with:
- Reduced symptoms of stress and anxiety.
- Improvements in sleep quality.
- Increased relaxation response and parasympathetic activity.
- Reduced symptoms of chronic pain in some populations.
- Improvements in mood and emotional wellbeing.
Effects vary between individuals and yoga is best understood as a supportive practice rather than a standalone treatment but as part of your overall lifestyle it can be a massive piece of the puzzle that finally helps you start seeing the bigger picture of your own REALNESS.
Why this class is for men
While pretty much anybody can benefit from practices like Yin Yoga, I’ve specifically created Dissolution Hour for men because I’ve seen first-hand how so many men are conditioned away from stillness, emotional awareness, flow over force, and embodied presence from a very early age. This just holds them back from showing up in their own lives in a real way (which is all most of us are really looking for).
The truth is that a lot of men learn to live almost entirely from the neck up – constantly thinking, analysing, working, pushing forward, distracting themselves, being driven by compulsions, or trying to stay in control of the uncontrollable. Over time, this almost always creates a deep imbalance between mind and body, action and awareness, and tension and release.
Many men are also carrying chronic stress, emotional suppression, physical tightness, or nervous system overload without even realising it because it has become normalised and practices like Yin Yoga offer an antidote by giving something that many men rarely give themselves permission to experience:
Slowness, presence over performance, stillness, rest, breath, and direct contact with their internal state without needing to ‘fix’, achieve, or prove anything to themselves or the world.
This isn’t about becoming passive or withdrawing from life – in fact, it’s pretty much the opposite:
Developing the ability to regulate, slow down, and stay present through discomfort creates a stronger foundation for clear thinking, meaningful action, healthy relationships, and resilience under pressure.
I also believe that many men spend large parts of their lives in modes of constant output like training hard, working hard, consuming stimulation, or remaining psychologically “switched on” all the time… Yin Yoga can help balance that by creating space for recovery mentally, emotionally, and physically.
In short: Dissolution Hour is ultimately about helping men return to a more grounded relationship with themselves – not by escaping reality, but by becoming more present within it.
Anecdotal Experience
Some people have reported to me that Yin Yoga has lead to reductions in chronic tension or changes in how they experience long-standing physical discomfort (like back pain, etc)..others describe emotional release or a sense of letting go or processing things that they weren’t even aware of.
These experiences are real – though they’re best understood as individual responses that may relate to shifts in attention, nervous system regulation, and changes in muscle and connective tissue loading over time rather than any single fixed mechanism.
In my own life, I can say that yin yoga has been one of the best things I’ve ever discovered for my own physical, mental, and emotional health and regular practice (at least once a week in my case) has really helped me to let go of things I didn’t even know I was holding onto and to become more present in myself and my life. It’s actually taught me so much which is why I want to share it with other guys in Dissolution Hour.

About Me
My name is Oli Anderson and I’m a transformational coach, author, and trained yoga teacher.
I’ve practised yoga for almost twenty years, and Yin Yoga has been one of the most influential practices in my own life for developing presence, emotional awareness, and inner stability.
I mainly work one-to-one with coaching clients and have introduced yin yoga-based practices into some of my coaching containers and have seen how slow, consistent somatic work can support broader psychological and behavioural change.
Dissolution Hour is my way of making this kind of practice accessible to more men as a way of becoming more grounded within it.
